I loved every single second of this book. It terrified me at the same time. I knew this book was going to be rough. I knew it was going to eat, not only at the characters' souls, but at mine as well. What I did not expect, was everything that happened.From the killer, to the emotion, to the love, everything was heightened.I loved Noah and Cole in book 1. They were lovely and the way they came together was brilliant and heartfelt. That was true in this book as well as they plan their forever together amongst the backdrop of Cole's past resurfacing.I cried at the pain these characters went through. Not all of it was the killer's fault, but the fault of Cole and Noah as they tried to protect one another. This was the tip of the "What will they do to keep each other safe" iceberg. And we got the answer. Everything. They would do and give everything in order to keep their family safe. Even if the cost is themselves.Tal Bauer is an amazing writer. His prose is on point, and his descriptions really suck you in.This book was everything I expected and more. It was lovely and horrible and I don't even know how I feel. While you could get away with reading this book without reading The Murder Between Us, I highly suggest you start there as Noah and Cole are everything. I’m so happy Noah, Cole, and Katie are back! This is a sequel to The Murder Between Us that can be read as a standalone, but then you’ll miss how Noah and Cole got together and that’s no fun. But there is no crossover in the main plot.If you love serial killer books, with heavy emphasis on the killer, this one is for you. Nothing is held back from the viewpoint of the killer and if you’ve read other books from this author, you know exactly what that means. It’s terrifying and mind blowing. And amazing.This one is lighter on the relationship between the MCs and heavy on the plot, but in no way is the story unbalanced. The love between Noah and Cole comes through loud and clear, add in Katie (their daughter) and it’s as solid as can be.I highly recommend this series.
