Ebook About He wanted her with consuming passion... and so did the monster within. Lady Veronica Elal has been freed from her tower—and entered a life of servitude. It doesn’t matter that her wizard master has odd ideas about circumventing Convocation tradition and making their relationship equal. Nic prides herself on her practicality and that means not pretending her marriage is full of hearts and flowers. Besides she understands that, despite her new husband’s idealism, they face obstacles so great the pair of them could be crushed to nothing, even without dashing themselves brainless trying to fight the Convocation.Lord Gabriel Phel has come this far against impossible odds. He was born with powerful wizard magic, the first in his family in generations. He’s managed to begin the process of reinstating his fallen house. And—having staked his family’s meager fortune to win a familiar to amplify his magic, a highborn daughter to be mother to his children, his lady, and lover—he rescued Nic in a distant land, successfully bringing her home to House Phel. Though she’s cynical about their chances of success, he’s certain they can defy their enemies and flourish. Together. But, the more Gabriel discovers about working with the fiery Nic, attempting to learn the finer points of wizardry and marriage, the more illicit fantasies plague him. His need for Nic—and the dark cravings she stirs in his black wizard’s heart—grow daily. Though Nic has reconciled herself to being possessed by Gabriel—and indeed yearns for even more from her brooding and reluctant master—creating a new life for herself isn’t easy. Especially when Gabriel seems determined to subvert the foundation of her world. Starting with her father.Book Bright Familiar: a Dark Fantasy Romance (Bonds of Magic Book 2) Review :
The fantasy world continues to be intriguing, but this book doesn’t really move the plot along much at all. I think only a couple of days pass (and while it is similar circumstances in the first book, more action did occur). Moreover, the two main characters have what feels like the same conversation over and over again in those couple of days. Also, because the plot is fairly stagnant, the ending feels aggressively like the author ran out of time and had to publish before finishing. I know cliffhangers are the typical for series like this, but generally there is some plot conclusion and then something new comes up (or someone is like kidnapped at the very end right before a plot conclusion kind of thing) so you have an idea of where the story is going. That isn’t the case here.(Spoilers) Here, the book ends with the two mains banging on the floor while one of the enemies waits for them outside. Who knows if the next book is going to be more of the same as this one or we will be heading somewhere else. And there had already been plenty of sex in the book so it wasn’t like the sex build up was a conclusion in itself. I was left underwhelmed, and, instead of getting me excited for the next book, I just felt frustrated.(Also, in regards to the sex in the book, I felt somewhat uncomfortable with how uncomfortable the main guy-Gabriel-is with his dominant role to the point I was skimming the sex scenes cause they felt more stressful than sexy or romantic-maybe if the plot had moved along more and we could see more of his comfort level rising this wouldn’t have been such a problem. Nic-the main gal-kept telling Gabriel to stop thinking and maybe that is what the author wanted readers to do as well). All to say, I would recommend holding on reading this book until the next one is released as I think it isn’t worth the time as is. Plus, maybe the author will discount this one before the next one releases. You probably could get away with just skimming this one or skipping it altogether unless you are just reading it for the sex-in which case, there is a good amount of it. I have no expertise in the dom/sub world, but I would say this isn’t exceptionally kinky (there is some rope usage and edging in a couple of scenes, no whipping but it is mentioned). As noted before, Gabriel’s POV with the sex makes it less appealing as well (you feel like someone with a family history of drug addiction is repeatedly being offered heroin and told how good it is for them).Again, the magical world is interesting, but I just cannot tolerate the glacial pace with these characters that is happening. Thus. I will not be continuing with the series, but good luck to those who do. I continue to adore this series and the dark themes it explores. This one is a little quieter than the first, largely staying in one location, which threw me off since the first book has so many adventure and travel elements. But we get lots of delicious interpersonal conflict including power dynamics and thoughtful discussions thereof, and sex magic with elements of dominance and submission. The series continues to be Fascinating (that's a pun) and I can't wait to read more, because again, reader beware, this is NOT a standalone!
